Moorland Sentinels

Love them or hate them, whatever you think, the expanse of the wind farm at Whitelee is certainly impressive.  With 140 turbines the scale of the development is at first difficult to comprehend and even each turbine 213 feet high looks deceptively small.

It falls into perspective, however, if you look carefully at the base of the central turbine in the picture where you might be able to see a tiny bulge which is a maintenance access doorway.

This photograph was taken on my first visit to the wind farm. I was struck by the remoteness of the moor land and the impression that the turbines were somehow standing guard over their surroundings.
